What was the first thing that brought you to Jalopnik, if you remember. Or, did you simply spring forth fully formed from Kinja’s forehead?

For me, it was

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I knew this dude in college, and it popped up on my facebook feed.

I can’t say for sure, but iirc it was something to do with GM engines. Maybe an article similar to this.

A friend of mine linked me to the site. Started reading in November of 2011, got authorship here in the summer of 2012.

a friend, he said check out this car blog.

for a related tale, I can say my first post on oppo was something along the lines of “I wouldn’t recommend feeding the trolls”. someone on oppo was asking what to do about a particularly annoying front page commentor, one “MonkeyPuzzle”, and seeking oppo’s advice about whether to reply to him or not

I don’t remember how I discovered Jalopnik, but I became a regular reader in 2014. One day Raph posted an article revealing the meaning behind the name of Cadillac’s “CT6". I thought the name was stupid, and left my first comment to point out how silly it was.

I didn’t understand how Kinja’s pending approval system worked, so my second comment was the exact same thing.

I think I was first here around mid 2010 or so. Was that Pre kinja? Can’t remember what first drew me here.

Man I’ve wasted a lot of time here. Lol.

This story about Raph driving my Dad’s old rallycross Arrow

http://jalopnik.com/destiny-is-a-s…

I remember working with my dad to build and install the dashboard that is still in that car to this day. Still see the car around at NER Rallycross events though it is sad to see the toll that rust is taking on it.

Yup, Kinja was like Jan or Feb 2013.

I came here in mid 2012 and regret having spent so little time in the GLORY DAYS.

I stumbled across Jalopnik when I was searching for articles on the Ford GT. I just read the articles at first and not the comments. While killing time one day, I started reading the comments. Those guys were so knowledgeable and ever so witty. I thought “why not join in?” My first comment was in June 2008, and I’m still here.

Surfing the web each morning for car news, especially Miata and Mazda 6 news kept bringing me to Jalopnik. I remember everyone waiting for the new Corvette to be revealed and reading some articles on Jalopnik that made me think “man, that’s kind of obnoxious and in your face writing”. But, ultimately, my inner slacker realized it had found a home and I ended up wasting my time here more than anywhere else.

I started reading Jalopnik many years ago, but never joined. I did however submit several news articles to the editorial links back 10+ yrs ago. I started to read it when they had insider info on the General Motors bankruptcy. We looked at it early every day back then because we got more truth from Jalop than our own management was feeding us.

It might not specifically have been this article , but it was definitely related to Stefan Eriksson and the Enzo crash.

I found Jalopnik through FARK. Not sure how I discovered Oppo. That was four years or so ago. Maybe more. I haven’t kept track.

Murilee Martin’s ~weekly “Down on the Street” series. It was a different world then. Here’s an example:

I was into cars casually, still driving a hand-me-down Volvo my freshman year of college when I started becoming friends with a pretty big petrol head. He told me to check out Jalopnik but to wait until after exams because I would be sucked in. I didn’t wait till after exams, but I did get sucked in. I finally found a place that matched my weird taste in cars. Even pre-Jalopnik my head would turn for a mid-80sturbo diesel Mercedes Wagon before a Ferrari.

Since then, I got rid of the perfectly good Volvo and now find myself in possession of a 1998 E36 Compact, a 1991 Toyota 4Runner and a 1991 Alfa Romeo 164 project. Y’all are bad influences.

Also very bummed that Oppo may go away just a few weeks after I got authorship.

I came across Jalopnik when it was used as a source by Dutch car website ‘autoblog.nl’. I decided to follow the source links a couple of times, after which I decided to stick around on Jalopnik, where I later found out about Oppo.

I used to work at an EV-related startup company so I would browse automotive blogs a lot (I still do the latter, as cars are also my primary hobby). Pre-Kinja Jalopnik was one of them, and I didn’t think to really join the platform due to the click-baity culture and tolerance for NSFW content.

I actually joined and got authorship on Oppo because right around the same time in late 2014, two things happened:

1. A slew of articles, some more click-baity and some less so, came out discouraging old Ferrari ownership

2. I had just bought my F355 and put it through a major service

So I thought I would dispel the myths with facts for those who still aspire to own one.
